As you enter The Whip Restaurant at The Green Mountain Inn you get the feeling that you are entering a tavern of yesteryear. The richly paneled walls, a roaring fire in the fireplace, and a polished wood bar greet you. The aroma of mouthwatering food being prepared to order in the second of two dining areas gives the entire restaurant the comforting aroma of home cooking. Antiques and vintage photographs hanging from the walls add to the ambiance.
When dining at The Whip, one should always start with their famous New England Corn Chowder or daily soup specials. I have been enjoying the Chowder for many years and have never been disappointed.
We then sampled (taste testing is a must) Sesame Seared Yellowfin Tuna, New York Strip Steak au Poivre, Vegetarian Penne Primavera, and Atlantic Salmon Filet in a heavenly cream sauce. Dinner was elegantly presented, servings were generous and all had fresh vegetables and starches.
Deciding on dessert was a difficult choice. Maple Creme Brulée, a fresh Maple Cake with pecans, blueberry apple crumb pie. Our selection was the house special: Sac de Bon Bon, (suggested for two). We could not resist this sandwich bag made of rich, dark chocolate, filled with fluffy chocolate mousse, topped with whipped cream and served on a platter drizzled with fudge sauce and fresh fruit slices. Decadant and delicous! A wonderful selection of herbal teas and coffee drinks completed this fabulous meal. Four thumbs up for this outstanding Stowe area dining experience. Be sure to include a visit to “The Whip” at the Green Mountain Inn during your next visit to Stowe – A recommended Vermont Living restaurant for lunch or dinner.
