Benson, Vermont is a town in Rutland County. Benson, VT was once the scene of many religious revivals, and spiritual awakenings. The town includes Benson Village at the intersection of Stage Road and Lake Road. Benson is now a peaceful farming community. Bordering New York state to the west, Benson is within a short drive of Rutland in south central Vermont. Benson was probably named after Egbert Benson, a lawyer and Revolutionary War officer who litigated land claims. The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife maintains a boat launch of Lake Champlain in Benson. The Benson Rotary Club sponsors the annual Great Benson Fishing Derby, which is held every winter. The Benson Fishing Derby is popular Vermont annual event.
