Ira is named for Ira Allen, one of Vermont’s Green Mountain Boys. Ira is the most peculiarly shaped town in the state and is bordered by West Rutland, Castleton, Poultney, Middletown Springs, Tinmouth, and Clarendon. Ira encompasses an area of 14,400 acres.
