Tops Markets is becoming a major food supplier for Vermont with stores primarily in the western side of the state. Tops Markets operate what was a Grand Union store in Hardwick. The TOPS Market story began in the early 1920s when Ferrante Castellani moved from a village outside of Rome, Italy to Niagara Falls, NY and opened his very first grocery store. Since 2007, TOPS has grown from 76 stores to 162 full-service supermarkets spanning Western and Northeastern NY, Northern Pennsylvania, and Western Vermont. Vermont is served by only a handful of Supermarket Chains and Walmart.
