Averys Gore, Vermont is an unincorporated town in Essex County. Although one of the earliest New Hampshire Grants, Averys Gore was never really settled. Located here is Great Averys Gore Pond and Small Averys Gore Pond. Averys Gore is known for many moose in the area, drive carefully. This town borders Quebec and is the home of Quimby Country – a well known sporting and vacation camp on Forest Lake. The town is named after Samuel Averys Gore who received a grant from Benning Wentworth. Averys Gore was a successful businessman and land speculator. Averys Gore’s population reached its peak at 48 in 1880. Today, Averys Gore is one of the few Vermont towns that does not have a post office located in the town. The Averys Gore Post Office is actually located in nearby Norton. Lumbering, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling are popular activities in this rural region of northeastern Vermont. Averys Gore contains two lakes – Big Averys Gore Lake and Little Averys Gore Lake. The Averys Gore Lakes are popular fishing destinations.
