Bakersfield, Vermont is a town in Franklin County. Bakersfield is the home of Peter Bent Brigham, the founder of the famous Boston Hospital, named after himself. The town was originally called “Knoultons Gore” – after Luke Knowlton (Knoulton) of Newfane. Knowlton sold the town in the late 1700’s to Joseph Baker of Westboro, Massachusetts.
