Ripton VT Lodging, Real Estate, Travel & Visitor Information
Ripton was named after Ripton Society in Connecticut. This was where some soldiers of the Revolutionary War were from that were granted the land. Ripton is located in the Green Mountain National Forest, and is best known for its “first citizen” and long time resident, Robert Frost. After attending the Breadloaf Writers Conference in the summer of 1938 he decided to make Ripton his summer home. He later bought a farm in Ripton so he would have a place to stay each summer. The Breadloaf Writers Conference is still held each summer at the Breadloaf Inn in Ripton, Vermont. Also located here is Breadloaf Mountain along with Mount Roosevelt and Mount Wilson.
