When you visit Southern Vermont along Interstate 91 be sure to include a food stop. Plan to spend a few hours enjoying the view and exceptional dining. These are not fast-food restaurants, and they are also not elegant dining. They are, however, very good choices with fresh foods, locally prepared. First on my list is an old favorite with an amazing view. The Marina Restaurant & Bar is a “must do” for anyone that enjoys great food or exceptional cocktails. The Marina is a little hard to find, just off of US Route 5 – it is located where the Connecticut and West Rivers meet in Brattleboro. The Marina Restaurant on the Waterfront features a fabulous outdoor patio and a multi-level interior with a great bar area. The food is good, atmosphere casual, with friendly staff and great bartenders. Another Brattleboro casual restaurant is Amy’s Bakery Arts Cafe on Main Street, in downtown Brattleboro. A popular spot beginning first thing in the morning. Amy’s offers cakes, cookies, and pastries along with a selection of bread, breakfast goodies and coffees. Lunch specials are served daily.

During the summer months on Saturday morning take exit 2 west off I-91. Traveling west on Route 9 you will find the Brattleboro Farmers Market about 3 miles from the interstate. This is one of the most popular Vermont Farmers’ Market in the state. This VT Farmers’ Market is like visiting an International Food Court. Plenty of treats for breakfast or lunch – a smorgasbord of unique foods, local farm selling home-made delights, as well as some of the best Vermont grown fresh fruits and veggies. You’ll find gluten-free pastries, Mexican, African, Greek, Thai food and more.
