Vermont Dining: Inn at Willow Pond
The Restaurant at The Inn at Willow Pond, on Rt. 7A in Manchester, Vermont is not to be missed. This charming country Inn boasts a delightful dining room that features Northern Italian cuisine in a lovingly restored New England farmhouse. The menu includes such delicacies as Spiedini, Rollatini, Gnocchi, Linguini Alla Pesto, Veal Marsala Saltimbocca, Farfalle Broccolini, and Steak Florentina.
The dining experience at the Inn is delightful in every way. The warm welcome at the main dining room entrance was followed by the helpful and attentive waitstaff. The atmosphere abounds in comfortable country elegance. The restaurant’s fireplace is a 220 year-old, three-sided original with raised colonial paneling and hand-hewn beams that contribute to the interior warmth. The bar in the restaurant was constructed from wide planks found on the walls of the second-floor bedrooms of the original inn building, which were then converted into meeting rooms.
The restaurant is very popular, even during mid-week periods – a tribute to the excellent cuisine. The appetizers of Capri Salad and Eggplant Rollatini are beautifully presented and exquisitely flavorful. The Capri Salad includes fresh mozzarella and basil – a welcome surprise for mid-January dining in Vermont – and a drizzling of fine imported olive oil completed the dish. The Eggplant Rollatini is excellent with a three cheese and spinach stuffing, and a tomato and porcini mushroom sauce that perfectly complemented the flavors.
The main course choices are extensive with kinds of pasta, steak, chicken, veal, lamb, and fresh seafood always on the menu. The Linguini alla Pesto was prepared to perfection with fresh basil, garlic, and pignoli nuts blended authentically. The fresh pecorino cheese perfectly completed this favorite Italian delicacy. The sweet and tender Veal Piccata was also prepared to perfection with a light and tangy sauce that did not overpower the exquisite flavor of the veal. Highly recommended!
The home-made dessert tray selections include chocolate cake and fresh cheesecake – both are thoroughly enjoyable. An Italian blend espresso and cappuccino are also available to enhance the array of delectable desserts. Dinner prices at The Inn at Willow Pond range from $12.95 to $21.95, and a nice wine list boasts the largest selection of fine Italian wines in Vermont. We highly recommend calling ahead for reservations to 1-800-533-3533, even during off-season periods. The restaurant at the Inn at Willow Pond is open seven days a week, and most major credit cards are accepted. Our thanks to our gracious Innkeepers, Kay and Ron Bauer, and to the talented Chefs, Scott Sibley and Richard Kulmane, for an all-around wonderful experience!
