Birds of Vermont Museum

The John Strong DAR Mansion & Museum

General John Strong built this two-story brick home in 1796. The home features period furnishings and colonial herb garden. In 1934, the John Strong Mansion was purchased by the Vermont State Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The rooms display period furnishings and exhibits tell the story of a colonial family’s life in the northern wilderness. The building is accented by herb and perennial gardens. The DAR John Strong Mansion Museum has been operated by the Vermont State Society Daughters of the American Revolution continuously since 1934 and is staffed by DAR Volunteers.

Tour Rokeby Museum and meet the Robinsons- a remarkable family of Quaker pioneers, farmers, abolitionists, authors, and artists. Rokeby was their home from the 1790’s to 1961, prosperous sheep farm, and a stop on the Underground Railroad. Seasonal. Guided tours are available. Admission is charged.

Founded in 1947, this is one of the nations’ most eclectic museums of art, Americana, architecture and artifacts. Collections of folk art, decorative arts, tools, toys, textiles, and transportation vehicles are exhibited. Paintings by artists such as Monet, Manet, Cassatt, Degas, Andrew Wyeth, Thomas Cole, Winslow Homer, Grandma Moses, and many others. The museum’s 25 19th -century structures include a covered bridge, a round barn, a lighthouse, and a 220-foot restored steamboat, “Ticonderoga”, that is a National Historic Landmark. Admission is charged.
